Chapter Three (Perseverance)

– PERSEVERANCE

James 1:2–4 (AMP)

[2] Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. [3] Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity and inner peace]. [4] And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing.”

The Lord Jesus says in

John 12:26 (AMP)

"[26] If anyone serves Me, he must [continue to faithfully] follow Me [without hesitation, holding steadfastly to Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]; and wherever I am [in heaven’s glory], there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him."

Matthew 16:24 (AMP)

"[24] Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come], and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].”

Matthew 10:38 (AMP)

“[38] And he who does not take his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me] is not worthy of Me.”

In order to persevere, you must endure, and in order to endure, you must have patience.

What is patience?

For patience to fully manifest, there ought to be an expectation for the end of the matter. Patience without hope is null. Hope that something good will surmount from the turmoil. Hope that the pain, difficulties, and distress will be worth the arrival of great gain.
