The Spirit Of Humility

The Spirit Of Humility

1 Peter 5:5 (KJV)

“[5] Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”

The reason why a lot of people struggle with certain problems is because of ignorance and pride.

Faith isn’t denial of fact; it is the acceptance of those realities. Then, you check what God says concerning such a circumstance, submit the situation to what God says about it, and act on it until it materializes.

You don’t dismiss the situation, affirm God’s Word, and then still act in a way contrary to what you are saying.

It is God who justifies—you don’t justify yourself. God doesn’t justify the proud; He resists her, or He resists him. The reason why people battle certain habits is because they feel it is by their power. The moment you humble yourself before God, confess your fault, and ask for mercy and grace—that’s when you receive the grace to move to the next phase.

It is when God’s Word for that moment comes that you take it, hold onto it, and bask in it. You will always need more grace: grace for greater impact, grace to obey all of God’s instructions.

Moses, according to scriptural reference, was the meekest man on earth. Why was that said about him? That was God’s report about him. Who can decree a thing that the Lord has not established?

Cast Your Cares On Him

1 Peter 5:6–7, 10 (KJV)

“[6] Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: [7] casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

What are your cares?

“Oh Lord, I get scared…” Then the Lord says:

I haven’t given you the spirit of fear, but of love, of boldness, and of a sound mind.”

Your faith responds, and you say: “I have the spirit of boldness! The spirit of love! The spirit of a sound mind! Father, in the name of Jesus, I cast out the spirit of fear—it has no place in me!”

Now you have set a stronghold, and grace follows suit to fortify your stronghold. The spirit of fear comes, but there’s no arsenal. Why? Because you have a stronghold backed by the grace of God. You enhance your stronghold by continually acknowledging the truth of God’s Word, and you perfect it with your actions.

Grace For Humility And Obedience

1 Peter 5:10 (KJV)

“[10] But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

The spirit of humility comes from a heart of reverence—a heart of reverence toward God and higher authority. When you don’t revere, it’s easy to defy and antagonize. That’s why the Messiah, being God yet man, continually humbled Himself before the Father.

Hebrews 5:5–9 (KJV)

“[5] So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, To day have I begotten thee. [6] As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. [7] Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; [8] Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; [9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.”

Learning is a change in behavior.

God called Abraham and said, “Walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Abraham wasn’t perfected by himself. He didn’t claim perfection—it was God who called him into perfection.

God changed his name from Abram to Abraham, meaning Father of many nations. It was God’s grace that made Abraham able to wait on the promise. This grace wasn’t with Sarah; hence, she grew weary of waiting. Abraham was enabled to obey, it was grace. This grace came from his faith in God.

It is God who calls you perfect. Abraham became perfect. One of the nations he became father of is faith—the Faith Nation. And so, he is the entity of faith in the realms of heaven and earth.

Abraham humbled himself before God, and though childless, believed God that he was the father of many nations.

The spirit of humility magnifies the finger of God upon a man’s life.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (KJV)

“[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”

So, if you find yourself in any situation contrary to God’s divinity or perfect will for your life, know that God is able to give you more grace to be free from all embargoes—greed, lust, pride, covetousness, homosexuality, and the like.

But you must humble yourself before God if you truly want to put an end to it.

Though you are a daughter, though you are a son, you must humble yourself before God and seek His mercy.

Hebrews 4:7, 13, 15–16 (KJV)

“[7] ...Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

[13] Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

[15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

[16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Boldness isn’t arrogance—it’s the absence of fear. So, you come without fear, in confidence of our Chief High Priest, the Lamb of God, to humbly obtain God’s mercy and grace to help.

The grace to help in times of fear, in times of discouragement, in times of grief, in times of opposition, and in moments of weakness. You cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you.

1 Corinthians 1:26–29 (BSB)

“[26] Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth.

[27] But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

[28] He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are,

[29] so that no one may boast in His presence.”

The spirit of humility is the spirit that positions our hearts toward God. God is moved by a humble heart. He doesn’t look at the outward appearance of a man; He looks at the heart.

A humble spirit is open to earnest rebuke, repentance, and reverence. A humble spirit is the perfect instrument of God’s might.
