The Help of the Spirit
Romans 8:26–27 (KJV)
“[26] Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
[27] And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
The Spirit of God has no gender, so the translators agreed to use “it” as a substitute pronoun.
When Prayer Life Is Under Attack
When a Christian is under attack, the first pillar that gets disabled is his or her prayer life. It starts with distractions, then idols (things that steal your awe and reverence), followed by doubts, unbelief, negative thinking, discouragement, etc.
Suddenly there’s weakness; and then the real attack begins. It could be an attack on finances, health, marriage, children, or even promotion.
The Spirit That Interrupts Downwardness
There is a Spirit from the Lord that interrupts the ministry of downwardness. It is the Spirit of Prayer.
When the soil beneath you is sinking, and you know you have gotten to the point of equilibrium, ask, and it shall be given to you.
The Lord Who Hears
Psalm 3:4–7 (KJV)
“[4] I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
[5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
[6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
[7] Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.”
Now, the Lord does not smite cheekbones anymore. He has given every believer the "Sword of the Spirit."
When Human Strength Fails
Men ought always to pray and not faint. But you are human; biologically speaking, you are programmed to burn out occasionally. That is where the Spirit of Prayer comes in. The Spirit of Prayer sets you on your feet and leads you to the quiet places where fools dread and angels tread.
The Spirit of Prayer vitalizes you to dig up the wells of your spirit. The Spirit of Prayer stirs you to take action: even when you do not see any possible solution. You are praying, and praying, and praying. Then suddenly, bam! There’s a bursting forth!
There’s strength! There’s wisdom! There’s solution! Hallelujah!
The Prayer God Never Ignores
It doesn’t matter the situation you find yourself in; there is always one prayer the Lord never ignores, regardless of who prays it:
“God, help me!”
It is an earnest prayer. God is close to the broken and contrite spirit.
Deliverance From Above
Psalm 18:6, 14–19 (KJV)
“[6] In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
[14] Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
[15] Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
[16] He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.
[17] He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.
[18] They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
[19] He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.”
A Prayer for You
May you be heard of God.
May the Spirit of Prayer cause you to mount up with wings as eagles—to run and not be weary, to walk and not faint.
May the Lord hear you in times of adversity, and may you prevail, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
God bless you.
Shalom.
