Chapter Four- Brokenness
“The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit; you will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”
Psalm 51:17 (NLT)
It is in the place of devotion that we encounter God’s divinity. His Spirit rubs off on us, but He can only reach us if our hearts are open. A cracked vessel is open; a hardened one is closed. When you open your heart at the hearing of God’s Word, you make room for His Word to enter.
“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
Psalm 119:130 (KJV)
Those who walk in wickedness and pride are those whose hearts are hardened—shut off from the voice of God.
“For God sets Himself against the proud—the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful—He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them, but gives grace—favor and blessing—to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5 (AMP)
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”
1 Peter 5:6 (NKJV)
