Scriptural Foundations


Samuel’s Call


1 Samuel 3:1–5 (KJV) 


“And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 

2. And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; 

3. And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; 4. That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, here am I. 5. And he ran unto ELI and said, here am I, for thou calledst me. And he said I called not: lie down again. And he went and lay down." 


Samuel heard God’s voice but did not recognize it at first. He mistook it for Eli’s and missed the call three times before guidance helped him understand.

Moses at the Burning Bush


Exodus 3:1–4 (KJV)

> “Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 

2. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush! And looked, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 

3. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

4. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses, and he said, here am I." 


Moses, shaped by years in Egypt’s palace surrounded by magicians and sorcerers, was familiar with signs and wonders. God first drew him with a sign—fire that did not consume the bush—before speaking audibly.

Adam in the Garden 


Genesis 3:8-9 (KJV) 


“8.And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 

9. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?"

  Vulnerability is a demonstration of Quiet Strength .  It is withholding the power to flee, to hide, to question, to doubt, to judge, to condemn— and allowing oneself to bleed.
