How To Catch A False Prophet By The Beard (Discerning False Prophets)

 24th March, 2025.

Matthew 7:3–5 (AMP)

"[3] Why do you look at the [insignificant] speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice and acknowledge the [egregious] log that is in your own eye? [4] Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me get the speck out of your eye,’ when there is a log in your own eye? [5] You hypocrite (play-actor, pretender), first get the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye."

A Christian should be more concerned about the state of his or her spiritual life than that of others.

If you have a problem discerning the children of God from the children of the devil—because Christ has boldly said you shall know them by their fruits—then you should pay more attention to yourself.

Nevertheless, there are signs. Even the Lord admitted that His very children would be deceived in the last days.

1 John 2:26–27 (ESV)

"[26] I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. [27] But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in Him."

If you are mature in the things of God, you do not need anyone to teach you. By their fruits, you will recognize them.

Prominent Signs:

Stunted spiritual growth:

There is nothing drawing you toward personal time with God. You are not inspired to revere and worship Him. You leave the premises feeling drained, sick, as though something has left you. In the presence of God, there is joy, peace, and holiness. If the Spirit of the fear of the Lord does not move in that service, that altar is not of God.

Self-adoration:

Such pastors and prophets use signs and wonders, or appearances, to draw you toward themselves. They enjoy glory and praise. But all glory, honor, and praise belong to God. A true minister directs the glory from himself or herself to the Lord.

Thirdly, their language:

They may pretend, but they cannot speak the language of the Spirit. Five minutes into a message, I discern the depth or spiritual ancestry of the preacher. They keep repeating the same things over and over.

The glory of God is ever-changing. It is new every morning. There is fresh insight, fresh knowledge—even for those who are not in the teaching ministry.

You should pay attention to their verbal and behavioral language.

Daniel 11:32 (ESV)

"[32] He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action."

These pretentious individuals do not know God, so they portray Him as a terrifying Lord. At other times, they are copycats. They copy and paste; they pretend to pray, to love. But one thing gives them away: hate.

They are spiteful, competitive, and loveless. They are full of resentment and bitterness. They act charitably in public but neglect their families and neighbors.

The Lord said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." So how can a man neglect his neighbor and display outward charity?

1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV)

"[8] But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

Such people leave their relatives in deep neglect and chase admiration through hypocritical public charity.

Lastly, adornments:

These individuals place emphasis on special ornaments such as rods, special chairs, rings, accessories, beads, oils, and similar items.

It is difficult to identify false prophets by this alone, as some of these characteristics were copied from ancient apostolic doctrines; however, many have become corrupted and occultic. We now have present-day churches run by occultic individuals who lay idolatrous hands on sincere believers and speak righteous words from contaminated vessels. They corrupt souls and steal destinies, planting hindering and lustful spirits among members.

But no more. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Church is purged of the influence of false prophets.

A PRAYER FOR YOU

See what you could not see before.

Hear what you could not hear before.

Know what you could not understand before.

You are free from every deceptive web, in the mighty name of Jesus. The Spirit of truth is alive in you, working in your heart, taking over your mind, and causing you to discern good from evil, and pretense from truth.

May your head reject every ordinance that is not of God, and may your body reject every ornament that is evil, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Shalom.
