CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE : THE REQUISITE OF DIVINE SACRIFICES

 


V.1-3.

Psalm 116:12 KJV


 "[12] What shall I render unto the LORD For all his benefits toward me?"


God has given us divine gifts freely. He has given us the Holy Spirit. He has

 given us the universe. He has given us resources. Earthly favour: grace,

 benevolence, long life, prosperity, fame.


V.4-7

What are the things God has given you?

It is customary for lovers to exchange gifts when they are pleased with each

 other.


V.8

God is a lover like no other, and he constantly delights in you. Every day he's

 cooking something up for you.



V.9 He's got it all planned out: people at the right places, at the right time, for

 the right purposes arranged and positioned just for you.



You don't please people by giving them only what you want to give them. It

 could be nice, but not needful.


When the Lord Jesus Christ visited Martha and her sister, all the Lord wanted

 was their attention. One gave Him her attention, and the other went about

 cooking and plating delicacies. She wanted it served excellently, and she

 beckoned on her sister to help her. Her Sister Mary, blatantly refused.

She reported to the Lord and this was his response;

V.10

"...Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: [42] but

 one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be

 taken away from her." Luke10:41-42.(KJV)



The Lord wanted their focus on him.


He told Peter

"Look on me..."


Today he's still saying

"If my words abide in you...."


The Angel of the Lord told Joshua

"Thou shalt meditate on these things day and night."


Which things? The word of the Lord... That's how the word abides in you.





V.11

How sincerely foolish for a man to use his first fruit to buy a cow and

 slaughter it on an altar as a burnt offering to God.

Nice! Sacrificial! But useless!


Now that the Lord has done so much and supplied all our needs, what shall

 we render unto him?




The Joyful sacrifice of praise


Psalm 27:1, 6 KJV


"[1] The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is

 the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?


[6] And now shall mine head be lifted up, Above mine enemies round about

 me: Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I

 will sing praises unto the LORD."



V.12


The sacrifice of obedience


1 Samuel 15:22 KJV

"[22] And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and

 sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than

 sacrifice, And to hearken than the fat of rams."


V.13-14

Obedience is sacrificial. Supplanting your will, perception and thoughts for

 another's is self denial. That's costly.



V.15

The Sacrifice of love

John 15:12-14 KJV



"[12] This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

 [13] Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his

 friends. [14] Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."


V.16

John 3:16 KJV


 [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that

V.17. whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.






V.18-21

Love is sacrificial. It's a duty. We are instructed to love regardless of how we

 feel: betrayed, forgotten, bruised, battered, humiliated... We must love.


V.22-30

To God, love is obedience. If you love him, you'd obey him. You would honour

 his authority and sovereignty. You'd abide by his precepts and trust his

 judgement. To stay when he says v.31 "wait!" And to move when he says

V.32 "March."

 Even when the odds do not seem favourable.



V.33-35

These are the three fundamental requisites God desires.

This is what God really wants. This is the divine requisite placed on you.

 Would you bountifully supply his needs?



v.36

A PRAYER FOR YOU

May your sacrifices at all times be pleasant to God, and well accepted. May

 they open doors of mercy, and doors of favour for you. May they cause you to

 bear fruit in a hundredfold, now and always... Amen.
